We've all been cooped up indoors for a while now due to lockdown (I lost count of the number of days a while back). As places and attractions are beginning to open up again, I thought it might be a good idea to make a list of some of my favourite places to head to for a family day out.

5. The Living Rainforest - Thatcham, Newbury

Featuring an incredible collection of beautiful rainforest plants and wildlife from two different tropical climates. This is a rare chance to see all kinds of unique plants and creatures from the other side of the world. We visited here last year and Ayaan absolutely loved it! It's so educational for the kids and I was able to learn a lot of interesting facts too!

The staff are so polite and the organisation also donates to rainforest conservation charities to protect these breathtaking habitats. Currently open for business you must book ahead for a timed slot on their website.

4.Wellington Country Park - Riseley, Reading

If you're looking to tire the kids out for the day, look no further than Wellington Country Park. This place is packed full of activities to keep them busy. The park has several adventure play areas with sand pits and slides, a toddler’s area, a miniature railway, a nature trail maze, an enchanted forest with lots of play equipment to climb on as well as 12 holes of mini golf. Very reasonably priced for all that you get the park is now allowing entry after buying pre-booked tickets from their website.

3. Cliveden Estate - Taplow, Berkshire border

A bit of a change of pace, Cliveden is a national trust park with breathtaking views and calming scenery. The grounds cover an astounding 375 acres so their is plenty of room to get a breath of fresh air and wander through the various themed gardens or winding woodland walks. They do allow dogs which is a bonus and there was even an option to take a rowing boat out on the lake which was Ayaan's favourite part. Be sure to stop off at the cafe for a delicious scone and a refreshing drink after a long day out rambling.

You can purchase a timed slot on the national trust website.

2. Windsor Castle -Windsor

The Official Residence of Her Majesty The Queen, Windsor castle is the oldest and largest occupied castle in the world. The rich feeling of history you get just from walking around the spectacular 13 acres of the castle is palpable.

You can take a guided audio tour around lavish rooms decorated in royal treasures as well as a look inside the beautiful St George's Chapel where Harry and Megan were married not too long ago. Ayaan and Yara got so excited whilst watching the changing of the guard but I think Yara just wanted to stroke their fluffy hats!

1. Bucklebury Farm Park - Buklebury, Reading

Recently reopened with new Covid friendly guidelines there is still loads to do at Bucklebury Farm Park. Ayaan and Yara absolutely loved seeing all the cute farm animals and the park offers plenty of opportunities to meet them up close. The 'Pet–a–Pet' petting zoo is where children get a chance to hold rabbits, stroke little baby goats and get a selfie with some Piglets! There was also egg collecting, pony grooming and a fantastic Tractor and Trailer Rides that take place throughout the day in the fields. You can wander around the park and see sheep, cows horses and even our favourite LLAMAS. Don't miss this fantastic spot.

So there you have it 5 brilliant day trips you can travel to easily in and around the Berkshire area. Let me know if you guys decide to visit any of these places and be sure to tag us in your posts on Instagram, we'd love to see.
